History of the city and Major historical monuments and archaeological sites :

El Kossour is an ancient city and it is rooted in history.It has been created since the Roman era.It was named "ALTISIRA". Its statutes are a clear proof for that ; for instance, one may give the example of "Hella" city.

The city had been known by its fertile land, The abundance of its fresh water which used to flow from "Ain Mizeb" and by its cool air, especially during the summer-time When people used to visit it

Moreover, the city was known by its weekly "Souk" which had been characterized by its constant existence since the lated 19th century.The "Souk" had been visited constantly by merchants and farmers from all over Tunisia. In addition el Kossour is recognized by its famous souk which was founded in 1881.

In fact, the city has been known by the Saint "Sidi Mansour Elgossouri ", and his famous mosque where he was burried around 855 "Hijri" .
